FMP: PRODUCTION

Filming

Scene 1

This scene was the very first scene filmed for this FMP and also the very first scene chronologically.  This was also a big day for filming as it required all 3 main actors plus myself, the location took place inside of a medical building owned by RAMMS and this building was in wycombe which the whole crew was able to arrive to. The company was moving out of the building so they had all of their equipment moved out so their office was emptied out, the office was in a massive kitchen so when it came to the camera shots we had to alter on the day to block out the kitchen out of the scene so in the recording it gives the illusion that the scene takes place inside of professional office and not in a staff kitchen. For scene itself it involves the main character in a waiting room then being called in to the office to have the meeting with another key character while the main antagonist is just lurking in the back and standing completely still being unnoticed. For the equipment i used the Lumix along with the boom mic and a tripod as well as 3 LED lights. The whole scene took roughly 6 hours to film with short breaks in between. In terms of issues during recording we were under a time limit which did put pressure on the crew especially since it was a very hot day and half of us had to be wearing suits but we went to the shop before hand for refreshments because we prepared for this. Filming went to plan as this was one of the simplest and second most planned scene of the film. The 2 onscreen actors did have trouble remembering their lines but after hours of redoing the scene it became more natural to them. This scene is the most dialogue heavy that needed to be memorised. As for the directing itself it was very manageable as the crew was only 4 people (including myself) so it was not hectic and everyone knew what they were doing beforehand. I am satisfied with this scene.

Scene 2

This was the second to last scene that was recorded. This scene heavily depended on the weather being kind to us. This scene was easily the least amount of pressure to film as it only required me and the main actor although there was a 3rd person to help carry and look after equipment. The context for this scene is that the main character wake up in a forrest on a sunny day and walks through the woods with a very peaceful atmosphere yet you can tell that there is something off about what you the viewer is looking at. The main goal for this scene was to have fun trying to come up with creative shots. There were no issues when recording this scene, overall the recording session was only am hour and 30 minutes at most and majority of that time was travelling rather than actually shooting and setting up shots. the green screen used for this scene was simply just placing the main actor on an office chair and spinning him around 180 degrees at a slow pace. The footage on the greenscreen itself will be footage of the Forrest spinning 180 degrees at a slow pace and it'll transform into a pitch black environment.

Scene 3

This was the biggest and most difficult day of filming because the crew included 10 people and the filming took place in a public car park right next to a police station so there was a lot of risk filming this scene. The crew included the actors (including zombie actors) a makeup artist, a camera operator, a drone operator and a bodyguard. I prepared a lot for this specific day of filming because I knew this would be the biggest day so I knew what exact shots I needed and when and how to film it. The day started with me collecting the camera equipment but it turned out that someone took the Lumix so I went to the backup idea which was to use Toby's personal Lumix. Everyone arrived and we started filming and applying the zombie makeup. Filming went to plan, everyone was very happy so morals was high and everyone got to have toilet breaks and food breaks and short breaks in general. Halfway through filming in the car park the police arrived to question us but after a short discussion they were fine with us stating that we are filming for a college project. The whole crew were very good at listening and even pitched in their own ideas which lead to a much better outcome for the scene. After filming in the car park we moved to the field to record the rest of the scene which included the main character running away from the zombies, similar to the opening scene to 28 weeks later. At the end of the day everyone managed to get home on time and everyone was very happy with how the filming went and overall was a great and memorable experience.

Scene 4

This was the only scene that I was not able to record before the deadline and this is because this scene requires all of the main actors, this scene is meant to take place in the middle of a dark forest and in this scene the main character finally confronts the main antagonist of the short film. Because this scene was to be filmed late at night that meant the whole crew had to sleepover at one of the actors house (as his house was nearest to filming location and his house was the only viable place to have a sleepover) the issue that occurred which prevented this scene from being filmed was that one of the actors had to go to Thailand for a month for his college course and he was not replaceable so we the filming had to be pushed back to the next earliest day which was a bank holiday so the college was closed so I could not film so that pushed it back to either June 6th or June 13th, with both dates being after the FMP deadline.

Scene 5

This was the second scene filmed in the short film and it took 3 separate filming days to fully record this scene. The first day was in the same office building as scene 1 and the other 2 days was after on separate days. The first day of filming we used the same equipment and actors used for scene 1 to then immediately start filming for this scene right after finishing filming for scene 1. On this filming day the scene takes place in the same location as the first scene and it has the main character in a panic running away from the main antagonist. He then uses a gun to kill himself to escape the dream world. Same issues here as Scene 1. The second filming day for this scene was at one of the actors front garden where we had to film the main character running out of the house while being chased by the antagonist. For this shot I would be holding the Lumix in one hand with an LED light in the other putting the light onto the main character and I would have to keep up my pace with the main character but this proved to be difficult as I was too slow and at this point it was also late so we decided to to this another day so that we could all get home on time but that lead to complications that was not everyone being free until after the deadline so we never got to reshoot this shot. The final day was to film the main character running down the stairs, this was a still shot and when the main character got halfway down the stairs a light behind him would reveal the main villain standing there. The camera would be at the bottom of the stairs looking up. We had no complications with this shot.

Epilogue

This was the final scene that was filmed for the FMP. it is a very short part of the film that concludes the short film, the epilogue is just a roughly 60 second uncut clip of the camera moving in on the box which is the main focus of the scene (the main character is putting the device in the box and taping it up) this was filmed at the main actors bedroom so i brought out the Lumix and Tripod for this scene but the tripod was not needed. I used a 15mm-35mm lens as i wanted this shot to begin wide and then slowly close in on the box. No problems occurred during the filming of this scene. This scene only required me and the main actor to successfully film. The audio is going to be added in post production which will be the song that was made by guitar and edited in logic by 2 musician students, This song would then transition into the credits.
