COLLEGE WORK

UNIT 1

BLACK AND WHITE FILMS

(Second) Black and White movie

This is the second Black and White movie that I helped make in a group, in my group were Finn, Devante and Jaden. I was the Camera man and they were the actors. We decided to film a fight scene with a twist at the end. The audience would think that the solo guy was innocent but then at the end he pulls out a gun and shoots them both implying that he was the true evil person out of the situation. We recorded the footage outside of the college but still near and we recorded the scene twice with me (The camera man) being in different positions. There are mistakes in here that we didn't notice during recording but that just makes me more aware of the amount of planning and care even a single scene needs. When it comes to the editing we did it as a group with me on the mouse. I was physically doing the editing but they were with me giving ideas helping improving the film overall. Firstly we got all of the footage and spliced them together to make them flow and look continuous then we turned the footage black and white but thought that wasn't enough so we added a black and white filter giving it a more grainy and old look. Then we added title cards that say what the characters are saying with a fancy font to go along with it. Then when we combine all of that we get our Black and White film so then we export it and there it is. Overall it was an interesting experience and i learned alot while making this.

(First) Black and White Movie

This is the first Black and White film I've helped make with my group Heather and Sophie. Admittedly I did the least amount of work on this only giving ideas and overlooking the editing process but my production to group work is a work in progress as I'll get better over-time.

Comparing Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton Music

Charlie Chaplin - The Pawnshop (1916) - The music stays the same for the most part, Jolly sounding but when Chaplin and the side character fight outside the Music gets more intense and high pitch the longer they fight until Chaplin notices the officer so then he pretends to dance and when this happens the Music goes alot more soft and playful. The music goes back to its normal self when Chaplin helps the side character out of the ladder.

Charlie Chaplin - The Bank (1915) - The music starts of jolly and comedic while Chaplin is walking into a bank opening a large safe. At first this seems confusing as the Music doesn't fit (what appears to be) a bank robbery but then Chaplin walks in and pulls out a bucket and a broomstick, Subverting the audiences expectation therefore explains why the Music sounds jolly and comedic. The music continues to play as he clumsily ruins his and everyone elses day.

Charlie Chaplin - The Kid (1921) - The music is composed by Charlie Chaplin himself and the music is much more fitting to the visuals as the mother getting kicked out of the hospital melancholic music is playing and the same song is played over a picture of a women burning in the fire. The music gets much more dramatic when the baby is being driven away without the driver or passenger knowing.

Buster Keaton - The Goat (1921) - The music in this make the scenes more dramatic and mysterious as Keaton is having an unlucky day, Then the Music picks up the excitement as he is being chased by the police and keeps managing to escaping by just the skin of his teeth. In this moment the Music could also be seen as comedic as Keaton is escaping in creative and comedic ways.

Buster Keaton - One Week (1920) - The music sounds very cheerful and energetic, This is because the theme of the film is a marriage so the Music should sound Jolly.

Flipbook

I made a total of 3 Flipbooks. The 2 green post it note attempts are my first 2 attempts and the one with the actual cards was my most recent attempt. I am not the most skilled when it comes to drawing but I still believe I managed to create something entertaining. I made these at home during my free time (not in lesson). This was an individual project. We created a flipbook and it could be about anything we wanted, I wasn't sure what to do but I took a more action route to make things more interesting. I believe that I did my best and that it turned out well. I felt that i wasn't doing amazing but also that I still did decent. Before i was intrigued to pursue the assignment and afterwards I was feeling satisfied with my work. I think the other people felt the same way.

LOWER THIRDS

This is an image I created using lower-thirds where i have an image of something with information being displayed at the bottom of the screen, more specifically, the lower thirds of the screen. I used an image of a turkish politician and displayed his name using lower thirds. I made this in illustrator which is an Adobe app used for creating objects with shapes and animating them in premiere pro. This version of lower thirds is a tier 1, where it only shows 1 piece of information. Tier 2 is when it displays 2 pieces of information in the lower thirds and tier 3 is when it displays 3 pieces of information in the lower thirds for example it shows the name of the person on the screen and the location the filming is taking place in and the date of time.
