SECTION 1: RATIONALE
So far this year I have learnt the basics of photoshop and premiere pro. The most important skill I've learnt is how to properly research and everything else about research. I know how to use research and everything else about research. I know how to use research when it comes to story and it helps me expand it while also keeping it believable which will help me as it will be most likely to engage the audience.
At the start of the course I was able to use the very basics of premiere pro and Photoshop. I was also able to edit videos on my phone.
Now I know how to film more professionally using certain cameras and camera techniques. I know how to involve myself more when it comes to group work although I still prefer working on my own. I have learnt many media trivia throughout the year through lectures from different types of microphones to the function of apertures on cameras.
This influences my project proposal because everything I've learnt up to this point has given me the confidence to attempt this major project that I have come up with. It is a very risky because many things can go wrong but I am confident that I am able to tackle this idea and become successful.
SECTION 2: PROJECT CONCEPT
So the concept of my project is for it to be a short film and it's going to be estimated to be 15 minutes. The short film is going to introduce a serial killer by the name of Kenny and his criminal alias is known as "The Crimson Killer" the word crimson is a colour that has a near resemblance to the appearance of blood. This is going to be the main character of the short film and he is going to be vlogging his experience meaning the audience will view the film entirely from his perspective. The film will be called "Memento Mori" which means "Remember that you must die" which is a Latin phrase. The name is an artistic or symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death. This relates to the consequences of the main characters actions as he will be causing death throughout the movie. The whole movie will be shot from a camcorder so that experience will be more believable as the whole movie takes place from this camera plus this will make filming alot more convenient and easier. I will attempt to play the main character and have my friends play everyone else. Currently there are no plans on the story so in terms of the concept of my project that is as far as I can say.
As for the aims of the project my aim is to produce a type of movie that has a unique experience delving into the twisted mind of the main character and watching his behaviour throughout the movie and learning what type of person he truly is, those questions will be left for the audience to decide.
For this project I will research into the psychological minds of killers and their intentions on killing people. I will figure out as many intentions as I can and choose the best one that will fit in my story. I will also research into backgrounds of serial killers to help me find out their intentions. I will use this information to help fully flesh out the main character giving him a reason to commit these crimes so I can avoid potholes as this will improve the movie and avoid it from not making sense.
When it comes to resources I will need I will need to have a camcorder and people who are willing to act in the project. Places to film, costumes, a good story with believable characters and something to edit with. I believe I can have access to all of these things so I am confident when it comes to producing this movie.
Personally I do not believe that I will need a studio only filming locations that are very accessible. I will get all of the needed equipment before by end of the pre-production phase, I will get these by knowing people who can help me with getting epuipment or I will go out of my way to get the equipment myself. I will make use of feedback by listening to it as constructive criticism and working out how I can incorporate it into my project while also achieving the aim of the project. I will incorporate independent study mostly into planning ahead. This will especially help with time management and getting the project finished on time before the deadline.
SECTION 3: EVALUATION
For my reflection I will state every little detail I do that contributes torwards the final project, Even the scrapped parts I will include. I will provide pictures and screenshots of everything for evidence of my journey and i will provide in-depth context to each of those screenshots. If I ever make changes to my overall idea so will document the scrapped ideas and comparing the pros and cons of each of those ideas talking about why I chose the idea I chose.
Initial Research
The name of the short film is called "memento mori" this means "remember you must die" in Latin which means that you cannot escape death and this relates to the main character of the film because he causes death to the people around him because that is his intention.
The Daily Stoic defines Memento Mori as:
“Memento Mori,” or translated in English, “Remember you must die.” The point of this reminder isn’t to be morbid or promote fear, but to inspire, motivate and clarify."
(Daily Stoic, https://dailystoic.com/history-of-memento-mori/)
The alias "The Crimson Killer" is the name given to the main character of the film because of two reasons. The first reason is that he is a killer, the second reason is that Crimson is a close resemblance to the appearance of blood having a red look with a tint of dark purple. Mixing these 2 words together forms "The Crimson Killer".
The location of the short film will take place in a small town in England mainly because it makes it easier as that is the most convenient area for me to film in. I'm using my current surroundings to judge where this story will take place.
As for the mentality of the character I have not fully made up my mind yet although I have been researching a few mentality disorders such as, attachment disorder, schizoaffective disorder, anti-social personality disorder, borderline personality disorder. I am playing around with these ideas to fully form the character and eventually create the intentions of the main character.
I've discovered this information from "Very Well Mind" a website dedicated to psychology.
"The term psychological disorder is sometimes used to refer to what is more frequently known as mental disorders or psychiatric disorders."
