FMP: PROPOSAL

Project Proposal

SECTION 1: RATIONALE

This year i have learnt a lot more practical skills than last year as this year i purposely pushed myself to get used to film with the colleges camera equipment and learn how to use the equipment as i know this would massively improve my FMP. I learnt how to independently use the Lumix S1H, with the help of Mathew and Toby i learnt how to set up and put away the Lumix S1H, the tripod, the boom microphone and the LED lights. All tools that i will need to achieve my goal for this FMP. They helped me learn how to operate the Lumix S1H as i never used a professional camera before, I learnt how to put on and off a lens, attach the Lumix to a tripod, hook up the microphone to the camera and how to change the audio settings, use the rule of 3 on the display as well as using the settings on the Lumix to alter the visuals to get what i want such as Saturation, Hue, Shadow, Brightness and i learnt how to change and use the ISO, F Stop (Iris) and Shutter speed. I was recommended to use F9 as it has a balanced middle of brightness. I got the opportunity to learn these by filming not just for my unit but also by offering to help other groups with their filming which gave me more time to learn the Lumix S1H.

SECTION 2: PROJECT CONCEPT

The concept of my FMP will be a short film that features a fictional device that can record dreams when attached to a person. Within the context of the story the whole film will be found footage as scenes taking place outside of a dream will be filmed from a camera that is part of the world that characters can interact with, diegetic cinematography. The genres are Psychological Thriller, Science Fiction and Mystery. The film will take place inside the dreams of Tom Bailey and we watch as the dreams get progressively more worse and life threatening. My aim for this FMP is to be ambitious and have the final product be a fully written and comprehensible story with creative camera shots and transitions to help make it memorable. For this FMP i will be researching the side effects of nightmare disorder on the human mind and how it effects their dreams, I will also research how colour can portray a characters intentions and morals within the film and finally i will be researching how to visually recreate dreams. For resources my short film requires fake blood for 3 button up shirts for the 3 zombie actors, i'll need makeup students to help with zombie makeup for the 3 zombies. I will also need multiple props; Airsoft handgun, 2 ply walls (2 meter length 1 meter width), black morph suit with white paint to outline the face. i will need equipment such as; DJI Mavic 3 (Drone), Go-Pro Hero 8, Lumix S1H, Tripod, Shotgun Microphone, Dead-Cat, LED Lights, Spotlight.

SECTION 3: EVALUATION

I will reflect on my progress by doing weekly podcasts stating what i did in the week to progress my FMP and what went well and what went wrong and what i would do differently to avoid the issues that occurred. At the end of the FMP when everything is finished i will write down an overall review of my progress throughout and state how well i think i did and if I am personally satisfied with the final product. I will be working on my own but will have the help of classmates as they will help me with the production and post production side of the project as they will be filming or assisting with green screen recording and editing that green screen footage.
