COLLEGE WORK

UNIT 3

The News Broadcast

My Reflection

Me and my group created our very own news broadcast. We did this in college and online on zoom. In my group were Jack, Harry, Mathew, Toby and Bradley. The whole process of creating a news broadcast is very complex and requires multiple people. Firstly we had to decide who was going to take the role of Producer. After that we had to structure our show by thinking up ideas for the story packages. After we had the basic ideas for the news packages we created scripts for them then filmed the pre-recorded packages. The pre recorded packages then got edited. We then had to create a script for the live broadcast itself. Of course we had to document everything using the templates provided. With everything complete we were ready for the broadcasting day. We all knew our roles and we knew what to do. We pulled off the broadcast successfully. I believe the outcome was successful. I wanted to create a weatherman skit but our group never had the opportunity to use the greenscreen room so we couldn't fulfil that. My contribution during this whole unit includes a mixture of being in front and behind the camera. Firstly I created the script for the coronavirus news package and after i made that I then proceeded to memorize the script as i was going to be the reporter for the interview so I was preparing so that the acting would be more authentic and hopefully that will raise the grade, if not then atleast it is presented in a more profesional way. I then wrote down the script for the gaming Inteview using the news package template Nargess provided. Finally on the big day I was operating the Tri-Caster. The Tri-Caster is used to switch between cameras and i had to quickly learn how to do that and get used to which cameras are which numbers. During the recording I believe I switch between the cameras almost perfectly as i believe I made a minor mistake at the start but that's acceptable. During my role as the tri-caster operator I was really nervous that I would mess it up but I was also confident that I knew how to control the tri-caster so i was feeling good but just with a feeling that something bad coukd happen. My work wouldn't be successful if it wasn't with the help of my group as we all played different roles and i believe we all did fantastic. What I have learnt from this experience is how important teamwork is especially when tasked to achieve big projects like this where this would not be doable by a single person or even 2 people. I have learnt how to operate within a group and the importance if it. I've also learnt how to operate a Tri-caster (only the basics) and i loved the experience of actually using a studio for the first time as it felt so professional and real. I also believe that I've performed well in front of the camera and this skill will be useful for future projects/assignments. I have learnt alot from this assignment and this proves to me why I chose this course and i enjoyed this unit very much and would love to do something like this again.

Idents

An ident is a video identification of a channel that advertises the different programs to an audience by introducing the next program and showing a time schedule of the shows that are coming on. It usually lasts about 10-20 secs and is normally animated creating a target which carries out different elements to specific audiences. These elements inform the audience on what the show contents and who its suited for.

The purpose of idents:

- To inform viewers about the content of a program e.g. (swearing or nudity)

- Introduce programmes + fill time in schedule.

- Grabbing the viewers attention by showing the brand identity.

- Channels happening- might catch interest of viewer.

- identifying a television show.

- Free advertising - reminding the viewer which channel they’re watching.

- Promotes the channel and other programmes that are going to be showed.

- Showing different indents for different times of day e.g. since indents would only be showed early hours in the morning or very late at night.

- warning viewers about flashing lights during the show
